Patients who get acne usually have severe pimples or infected bumps on their face, collarbone, back, shoulder blades, chest, upper arms, and thighs. If left untreated, acne can leave behind scarring, which can affect the way you look and feel about yourself. To erase the appearance of acne scars, The Skin Lab is pleased to provide acne treatment with the Opus Plasma® system. This state-of-the-art microplasma technology can leave you with clearer, revitalized skin. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with our skin specialists to see if you might be a good candidate for acne treatment.

In order to conduct the acne treatment, our skin specialists will select the Opus Plasma handpiece that suits your unique complexion. A numbing cream may be applied to maximize your comfort. She will then guide the technology over the intended area to encourage your body's natural production of collagen, which should cause the acne scars to fade and give you a clearer complexion. Following your procedure, you may have some red areas or inflammation for up to 48 hours, but this should go away on its own. Results may vary, depending on the condition of your skin, and it may take 2 – 3 sessions to attain your ideal look.

About Us
Do laser acne treatments hurt?

No, many people only sense mild discomfort from the treatment. Many say it is something like a "snapping" feeling at first that then goes away once the skin becomes accustomed to the feeling. Our specialists might apply a topical anesthetic to help make your procedure as comfortable and pleasant as it can be.

Can acne be permanently cured?

Regrettably, while acne can be treated and managed, there is no "permanent" solution for acne. Nearly everyone will live with some degree of acne at different times in their life. For a number of people, acne can be extreme, while for others, acne is rarely if ever a concern. This is why we offer a multi-pronged approach to alleviating acne that can be personalized to your distinct needs.

Do specific foods trigger acne or make it worse?

Largely, no, consuming certain foods does not lead to acne. A lot of research has gone into the connection between certain foods and acne. However, the principal catalyst for acne is biological changes that can prompt the sebaceous glands in the skin to produce too much sebum, which can obstruct pores, resulting in acne outbreaks. Though unverified, there are certain foods claimed to worsen acne symptoms, like heavily fried foods, dairy foods, food high in saturated fats, foods containing a lot of processed sugar, and milk chocolate. The connecting element between acne and these foods is that they can influence hormone levels, which may cause acne.

What causes acne?

The main trigger of acne is hormonal shifts, which can incite the sebaceous glands within the skin to overproduce sebum (skin oil), which can clog pores, leading to acne outbreaks. At The Skin Lab, we will customize an approach to minimize acne and consider multiple factors to verify that your acne treatment addresses the root reasons behind your acne rather than just the symptoms.
